Digital competences are a key element of the professional development of future teachers in the context of today's digitized society. This article focuses on the issue of self-awareness and self-assessment of digital competences among students of teacher training programs. It draws on expert knowledge about the importance of self-reflection in the teaching profession and analyzes selected approaches to the assessment of digital competences. Special attention is paid to the relationship between the perceived (expected) and actual level of digital competences, while broader implications for the professional preparation of future teachers are also discussed. The study concludes by emphasizing the need for systematic support for digital literacy not only in higher education but also in the continuous professional development of teachers. Targeted self-assessment, identification of shortcomings, and the creation of individualized competence development plans are presented as effective strategies for supporting the quality of teaching in the digital environment.

Keywords: self-assessment, digital competences, preparation of future teachers.
